Abstract
This article aims to analyze aspects of the marriage market in Jacarepaguá parish throughout the XVIII century, and, more specifically, in the second half of the century. Inserted in the Portuguese Catholic Old Regime, the individuals presented have a strong sense of belonging to the Portuguese Monarchy and its rules. At the same time, demographic data were collected that shed light on the daily life of poor farmers who lived in mills and produced, basically, for subsistence, relying on family help and a few slaves for work in the fields. Through this analysis, we arrived at figures on the average age for marriage, the intergenerational interval, the primogenetic interval, the legitimacy of the children, both of free and enslaved, in addition to the profitability, for the year 1797, of the residents of the region.
